Summary

This book is - or at least attempts to be - a complete guide to the facts and issues you should know about - ideally before you get cancer or before you are treated for cancer.

The main section of the book is divided into four parts:

1 The Basic Facts
What is cancer? What are the statistics? What are the causes and symptoms?

2 The Orthodox Approach
Critical analysis based on published sources of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, cancer research and the politics of cancer

3 The Alternative Approaches
Introducing the diets, supplements and herbs - and the psychological approaches.

4 An A-Z of other Alternative Approaches
A brief description of almost everything that anyone has proposed as a cure for cancer.

You can find a more detailed description of the book here.

Publishing history

This book was originally published in the UK by Hodder Headline, a large publishing house. However, it was never released to the US market. After two editions it was allowed to go out of print. While I negotiated the return of the publishing rights and tried to find another publisher, I made the book available free of charge as a download from this site. Now, having updated the book and having been unable to interest another UK publisher, I have decided to sell it as an ebook (pdf file) from my commercial site, Long Island Press.

Why sell it? Why not continue giving it away?

My commitment is to make available the information I have accessed and analysed from my own critical perspective. To make it available to the largest possible readership I need first of all to maintain this website but also I need to promote the website. This involves sums of money far greater than I can afford from my own pocket. I can either have a site that few people know about, that is poorly maintained but which remains commercially pure - or I can ask people to contribute to this endeavour. Also, it is true that we tend to value what we pay for more than what we are given free. However, that said, I think you will agree that the value of the information you get far outweighs the small price I have put on the book.

I want to buy it now! How can I get it?

Other books?

Fighting Cancer - A Survival Guide contains, as I say in my Google ad, everything that everybody should know about cancer (whether they have cancer or not!). However, I am constantly asked for suggestions and advice. Now, I cannot advise you on what you should do (because I don't know you, I don't know the full details of your case and not least of all because I am not a doctor or any other type of health professional) but I can tell you the conclusions I have come to for myself. I have written these up into a booklet called 20 Things that I Would Do If I Got Cancer. For further details click here.

Also, I receive emails from people who are moved by my own personal story which they have read on the author's details page of this site. For those interested in my own personal experience I have written this story in my book Wordjazz for Stevie. For details click here
